Arctic Circle Ltd has again been recognised for its careful design of products in promoting sustainable consumption by being selected as the UK’s entry in the Product Category of the European Business Awards for the Environment 2006.
The European Commission launched the biannual awards in 1987 to recognise the achievements of companies who have pioneered environmentally friendly policies and products and make outstanding contributions to sustainable development worldwide.
Arctic Circle was selected as a result of recent success in the Business Commitment to the Environment (BCE) Awards, where the innovative, energy efficient compressor was recognised. Only EU businesses already holding a national award for environmental performance improvements can enter the European Awards.
This year the awards received the highest number of entries since its inception in 1987. This record reflects the growing importance being placed on environmental sustainability and the competitiveness of the businesses to attain recognition for it; something Arctic Circle have made a primary objective for several years.
All entries are judged by an international panel of independent experts with experience and knowledge of sustainable development issues and organised by the Awards Steering Committee in the European Commission.
Arctic Circle was one of only 12 UK finalists, and the only representative from the RAC industries to get through at European level.
The achievement in winning through to the last stages of the judging process to become a UK entry reaffirms the Company’s commitment to combining innovation with a sustainable business model.
